Meet Balli

Get ready to see some really fun shots! I met Balli Logan through my good friend Aggie Buedo (check out her shoot). Balli is a professional dance instructor, choreographer, and model from Miami. Balli was part of my East-West Coast #PhotoGrind shoots which started in Miami and finished in Los Angeles in June 2019.

Balli brought the energy to the shoot and I was able to get a bunch of different looks at a few great iconic Miami, Florida locations: Alice Wainwright Park in Coconut Grove and Rickenbacker Causeway and Hobie Island Beach Park in Key Biscayne.

The Gear

Here's the gear I used for this shoot. This is part of my ultra mobile setup:

  • Camera Gear: Canon 1D-X Mark II, Canon 85mm f1.4L IS, Lexar 32GB Memory Cards, Hoodman HoodEYE Eye Cup, and Tiffen UV filters
  • Lighting: Profoto B1X 500 monolight, Profoto OCF 2ft Beauty Dish, and Profoto AirTTL Remote

Outfit #1

Balli's first outfit is a classic Nike Pro outfit. I absolutely loved the bright orange Nike Pro shorts as they contrasted the Atlantic Ocean very well.

Alice Wainwright Park in Coconut Grove was the first location. At first glance, it looks really small but as you get to the water's edge, you realize the park is huge!

These coral rocks were great to shoot on. I used the OCF 2ft Beauty Dish to help compliment the strong highly positioned sun.

Outfit #2

I flipped around and found a nice palm tree bark near the water's edge.

Suns Out

I found these great stone seats and the sun was in the right position for some great light balanced out by our Profoto strobe. The high speed sync was a huge help.

Hoodie

The beautiful light continued and Balli pulled a surprise jacket out of her bag of clothes! It may have been 95 degrees but that didn't stop us.

Best Shot

These were some of our coolest shots from the session. Just a simple OCF Beauty Dish and the sun.

Settings for this shot: 85mm at f2.8 ISO 125 1/2500. High speed sync for the win!

Basketball Court

This park was so deceivingly big that it even had a full size basketball court and playground. Balli's outfit was perfect for a shoot on the court.

Hobie Island Beach Park

We moved across Rickenbacker Causeway to the Hobie Island Beach Park. This location was pretty awesome as we had a nice mixture of bridge, beach, and sun.

Outfit #3

Kami switched into some nice VS Sport spandex pants. I had Balli shoot in two different sports bras (Nike and VS).

Laughing Pose

This is a pose that I've been trying to perfect over the last few shoots. It keeps getting better and better with each take.

Stretching

Balli came up with a great idea for a pose and this was a complete surprise. She's super flexible and that comes from her trainer as a professional dancer.

Thank you Balli!

This was a great session and Balli brought the fire and energy along with some really great outfits. I had a ton of fun exploring a few new Miami spots that I never knew existed. I'm already looking forward to our next shoot together!
