I'm really excited to introduce my work with Franklin Sports and Team USA Softball athlete and Olympic medalist, Janie Reed. Back in January 2020, Franklin Sports contacted me to discuss a marketing photo shoot featuring their first sponsored female athlete, Janie Reed.
This turned out to be a fully featured photo shoot working outdoors and on a backdrop using my portable studio setup on-site.
The session took place at Greco Softball Complex in Tampa, Florida. It was an early call time to get both locations setup and ready for Janie to start shooting.
This shoot required an outdoor and studio setup both setup at the ballpark. Shoutout to Profoto, Avenger, and Savage for making this really easy!
For the studio, I used 4x D2 and 2x B1X strobes with gridded strip boxes and 3ft / 2ft octaboxes modifiers with HSS enabled.
For the outdoor setup, I mixed available light with the B1x strobes from the studio setup using the 5ft and 3ft octabox modifiers. The HSS was just what I needed to capture the high speed action from Janie on-set.
I kicked off the shoot with product shots of the custom Franklin batting gloves inside one of the dugouts. It was a simple setup with just one B1X strobe in a 3ft octabox.
Franklin even developed a custom gear bag.
For these shots, I setup two B1X strobes with 3ft and 5ft octaboxes to capture Janie walking up to the plate. This allowed me a few more opportunities to get the right shot.
Once we moved to more stationary shots at the plate, I flipped sides and worked with the two B1X strobes still in the 5ft and 3ft octaboxes. The 5ft was the key while the 3ft acted as a fill with available light helping with the rest.
I really love these custom gloves.
This was one of my favorites! Check out that glow.
I used a simple one light setup: a 5ft octabox using one B1X. The sun was placed behind her to create a beautiful rim light.
Next I moved to the outfield to take a few product shots with some of the killer Franklin Sports practice gear. This was a one light setup with the 5ft octabox and B1X.
Janie did quick outfit change into the official Team USA uniform and I moved back to the home plate for more action product shots.
This was another favorite shot. I love the classic look.
These were shot in direct sunlight using my portable studio setup. I controlled light by using Profoto's HSS shooting at f/11 with at 1/800. Really loved the results!
These were some fun last minute ideas from Janie. They turned out great!
It is truly awesome to see my work in action. Check out some screenshots from the Franklin Sports website.
Here is the social media blast announcing her signing.
A huge shoutout to the creative team from Franklin Sports (left to right): Aaron Seitz, Jess Dunn, and Karly Laliberte!!! They were awesome to work with and I am so appreciative for the opportunity.
Also can't forget a huge shoutout to Janie Reed. She rocked this shoot! Can't wait to see her in the 2021 Olympics.
